48 Hour Update: 5 books (21 hours) and counting

June 5, 2010

By the clock: 21 hours

On the page: 1458

I’m not sure if I’ll get in any more books because I’ll be heading off to dreamland soon and my 48 hours ends at 10 AM tomorrow but I just finished the ARC of Hero by Mike Lupica and to quote a line from it, “WOW, WOW, WOW”. Kids are going to eat Hero (and what will obviously be the sequels in this new franchise) up like they’ve been on a 3 day fast. This is definitely the best book I’ve read all weekend (Tolstoy not withstanding 🙂 )  Great imagination, sharp writing, plenty of action and full of timely references. This will be another Lupica offering whose spot on the library shelf will always be empty.

Summary: When Billy Harriman’s father dies in a plane crash, Billy’s entire universe shifts – not just figuratively.  There’s so much his dad never told him: about his secretive work, about his special talents, and above all, about Billy’s own destiny. Now Billy must hone his own strengths – and decide whom to trust.

Genre: Science Fiction/Fantasy/Action

Audience: Midgrade and YA

Now, to see if I can squeak one more in before the deadline …
